This team provides fun and exciting activities for guests, like trivia games, Zumba ® classes, ice sculpture demonstrations, dance lessons, and arts and crafts. The Junior Assistant Cruise Director is an entry-level position on the Cruise Staff team. Summer production and design opportunities are available with the Indiana University Summer Theatre. Leadership and organizational skills are developed by teaching and supervising undergraduate students and, under the supervision of the department's Lighting Supervisor, by managing lighting related areas such as the lighting inventory and work call scheduling. Production experience includes being trained as an Assistant Lighting Designer and serving as a Master Electrician for other designers' shows. Students receive training in design for traditional plays from the canon and new plays, along with musical theatre, and contemporary dance, and given opportunities to design in each of these genres. thesis project, which will be documented more extensively than is normal in a professional production, and reviewed by the student's hand-selected thesis committee. One production in the third year will be designated as their M.F.A. Lighting Design students typically see their work realized onstage before an audience every semester during their tenure in the program. To ensure a deep understanding of related specializations, students may take courses in Theatre Technology, Scenic, Costume, or Sound Design, or declare a minor in any of these areas if they successfully complete an approved sequence of courses in one of these areas. Students are given multiple opportunities to serve in support roles for productions within the department, and faculty also encourage and facilitate professional connections locally at the University’s Jacobs School of Music, and at professional companies in the region.īeyond the work within the department, lighting faculty are engaged professionally as lighting designers at the national and international levels and involve graduate students in that professional work wherever possible. ![]() The department’s full production calendar, coupled with its limited population of graduate students, is designed to provide multiple opportunities to design fully produced theater and dance productions over the course of the three program years.
